Treatment

There are two ways to treat ear aches, particularly those caused by ear infections. The first is through conventional treatment, which typically involves the use of oral antibiotics and sometimes medicated drops, and the other is through natural remedies, like the application of garlic oil and other natural substances.

A doctor may prescribe an antibiotic if the ear infection is found to be caused by bacteria. Pain relievers such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen may also be prescribed to offer some relief from pain and reduce fever if it is present.

When antibiotics are prescribed, it should be administered as directed by the doctor. Antibiotics are often effective in clearing the initial infection; however, they may compromise the immune system and leave the person vulnerable to recurrence and chronic infection. This is actually one of the reasons why many people choose natural remedies for the treatment of ear ache.

Like most medications, natural remedies can also effectively reduce the pain, inflammation, throbbing and discomfort of ear infections. What's more, these remedies treat the underlying causes without the side-effects associated with antibiotic use.

Although there are different ways to cure an ear ache, what's important is their effectiveness in treating the problem without permanent damage to the ear or to the hearing.
